What is theGSI?

The Group Styles Inventory® (GSI) is designed for teams and groups responsible for solving problems and making decisions, whether they are ongoing teams or formed for a specific purpose. It provides a clear view of how the group works together in practice, highlighting the patterns that shape how decisions are made, ideas are explored, and outcomes are achieved. It can be used as a continual improvement tool, or at key points in a project to reflect on how the team is functioning and where to focus to improve effectiveness.

The GSI is a practical, team based process. Each team member completes a short survey, responding to a set of statements about how the group operates, including areas such as effectiveness, solution quality, and how well ideas are accepted. The team then scores and profiles both their individual and combined results, creating a shared view of how the group is working together. This data is brought together in visual reports that make team dynamics visible, providing a clear basis for reflection, discussion, and practical improvement.
